About me

Alexei Sergeev

I'm an engineer with more than 15 years of experience in IT. I design, build and maintain IT infrastructure, Linux servers, networks, web services and automation systems.

Experience

Experience

Over 15 years in IT I've gone from administering individual servers and network equipment to designing and running distributed infrastructure, automating operations and building my own services.

I've worked with Linux infrastructure, corporate networks, VPNs, virtualisation, containers and monitoring systems. I've designed fault-tolerant solutions, automated the maintenance of large fleets of servers and devices, and set up centralised monitoring, backups and configuration management.

Development is a separate part of my work. I build websites, internal services, APIs, admin panels and automation tools in Python and Django, integrating them with existing infrastructure and external systems.

I'm equally at home with a small business running a few servers and with larger distributed systems spanning hundreds or thousands of devices.

Approach

How I work

For me, the goal is not just to deliver to a specification but to solve the underlying problem. So before starting, I try to understand why a particular solution is needed, what the constraints are, and how the system will be used and evolve.

I prefer simple, clear and reliable solutions. I don't add complexity to infrastructure without a reason, and I don't recommend technologies just because they're popular. If a task can be solved reliably in a simpler way, I'll choose the simpler option.

When designing a system, I think beyond the launch to how it will be run: security, monitoring, backups, documentation, and the ability to update it and recover from failures.

I work directly with the client and explain technical decisions in plain language. The aim is that when the work is done, you get not a set of configured technologies but a working, predictable and maintainable system.
